ఇరవై ఏడేళ్ళంటే ముక్కుపచ్చలారని వయసు. చదువు పూర్తిచేసుకొని, అప్పుడప్పుడే వ్యాపారమో, ఉద్యోగమో మరేదైనా సంపాదనామార్గమో ఎంచుకొని విజయాల బాటన నడక మొదలుపెట్టే వయసు. అల్లూరి సీతారామరాజు ఆ సరికే ఒక మహాసామ్రాజ్యాన్ని గడగడలాడించగల ఉద్యమాన్ని నడిపి, దేశవ్యాప్తంగా ఒక స్వాతంత్ర్య స్పూర్తిని నింపి, నిష్క్రమించాడు.

సుభాష్ చంద్రబోస్ ఇండియన్ సివిల్ సర్వీసెస్(ICS) పాసయినా ఉద్యోగంలో చేరకుండా కాంగ్రెస్‌లో చేరాడు. రెండుసార్లు కాంగ్రెస్ ప్రెసిడెంట్‌గా ఎన్నికయ్యాడు. కానీ, గాంధీజీతో విభేదాలవల్ల పార్టీని విడిచిపెట్టి తన స్వంతంగా స్వాతంత్ర్యం కోసం పోరాడవలసి వచ్చింది. 

రెండవ ప్రపంచ యుద్దం మొదలైనప్పుడు బ్రిటీష్ ప్రభుత్వం మీద స్వాతంత్ర్యంకోసం ఒత్తిడి చెయ్యడానికి అదే సరయిన సమయంగా భావించాడు. ఆ సమయంలోనే, 1940లో, ఆయనని జైల్లో పెట్టారు. నాలుగు నెలలు జైలు శిక్ష అనుభవించిన తరువాత అక్కడినుంచి తప్పించుకొనే ఉద్దేశ్యంతో ఆమరణ నిరాహార ధీక్ష మొదలుపెట్టాడు.  

ఆరోగ్యం క్రమంగా క్షీణించడం మొదలుపెట్టింది. ఆయన జైల్లో మరణించడం జరిగితే దేశం అగ్నిగుండంగా మారడం తద్యం. కాబట్టి, ఆయనని అక్కడినుంచి విడుదలచేసి గృహనిర్బందంలో ఉంచారు.

ఇంటి చుట్టూ కాపలాగా ఉన్న పోలీసుల కన్నుగప్పి తప్పించుకొని జర్మనీకి పారిపోయాడు. అక్కడినుంచి జపాన్‌కి. ఇండియన్ నేషనల్ ఆర్మీని(INA) స్థాపించి `నేతాజీ` అయ్యాడు. కానీ, భారతదేశానికి స్వాతంత్ర్యం రాకమునుపే ఒక విమాన ప్రమాదంలో మరణించాడు. (దీనికి సంబంధించి కొంత వివాదం ఉంది. కొంతమంది ఈ మరణం పూర్తిగా నమ్మదగింది కాదని అంటారు.)
